Nov 12: – Hong Kong and Kowloon

We leave this evening for Shanghai.  Like the rest of our stops on this trip the stop in Hong Kong was just an overnight affair.  We had a quite breakfast this morning because most of the student, faculty and Life Long Learners were off on trips throughout China.  There are only 166 of the 750 passengers remaining onboard for the trip between Hong Kong and Shanghai.
I was interested in seeing if I could get a tweed sports coat tailored while I was in Hong Kong.  One of the travel agents that come on board suggested Pete’s Fashions as a good place and one that most of the Embassy staff used.  We found Pete’s the previous evening when we were at dinner, and headed back today while they were open for business.  After looking at several cloth samples trying to find what I originally started out looking for, I selected the material and went through the first fitting/measuring.  As we were leaving, we discovered that Pete’s also sold glasses and frames.  After looking around, both Julie and I each selected a pair of prescription sun glasses, and we were assured they could be ready by 6:00 PM along with the second fitting of my sports coat.  The timing was good since we did not have to be on the ship until 8:00 PM.   This gave us about 3 hours to kill.
We headed for the bus station and found abus to the Stanley Markets.  It was an 45 minute bus ride leaving us only an hour to browse the markets before we had to catch the bus back to Pete’s and the ship and a sit down dinner.
Because there were only so few people making the journey from Hong Kong to Shanghai, we enjoyed a formal dinner both nights in transit.  It was nice for a change not to eat cafeteria style for a change and now we are headed for Shanghai.
